R100 Baton Relay in Northern Beaches - 7th Feb 2021
We celebrated the Centenary of Rotary in Australia by holding District 9570's northernmost R100 Baton Relay from the District boundary - latitude 21 South. Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson officiated & started our club team's 5km walk on scenic Shoal Pt Beach. They walked through 3 shady parks along public shared pathways & beach access ways. At Bucasia Beach they passed the Baton to Sunset Bay Outrigger Canoe Club who carried it on the ocean leg. Eimeo Surf Life Saving Club team escorted the canoes to Eimeo Beach & to the finish line.
Celebrations at Eimeo Surf Club raised funds for them, thanks to all relay participants & supporters, including Rotarians, MRC Councillors & members of the public. Fun participation & interaction for members of 3 Northern Beaches organisations. Promotion of the 3 clubs & the volunteer work that Rotary & Surf Life Saving do for the good of our community. |

Mackay RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness ) Workshops - November 2020
Rotarian Toni leading "The I in Drive" session at Mackay RYDA as a Facilitator, for approximately 150 students in total in 2020. The outdoor ‘classroom’ was an innovative solution to mid-November heat for 1 of the 6 interactive sessions for both days. Police officers, professional driving instructors, and trained volunteers from Rotary Clubs deliver powerful messages, videos and a demonstration of braking distances, etc. Mackay high school students are very fortunate to be able to participate, as it is 1 of only 2 RYDA workshops held in District 9570.
